He Has Friends

Man's epic struggle with fate
assumes there comes a man or woman
strong and heroic,
maybe many of them,
beautiful and tough minded
enough to beat it,
to win over all the odds,
defeat the gods,
--and there was,
but we are not tragic fate,
ourselves we killed him--
and horrors--
he rose again after three days, sailed away
and will return
only for his friends,
he has friends,
yes, he has friends.
