Over Bethlehem

         
A star,
a luminary seed,
a guide, a watchful eye,
a signature on a letter
of legacy from a father,
an umbilical termination,
withdrawing as a mother
slips away, closing a door
on her sleeping child,
swaddling him in the safety
of Mary and Joseph,
his friends,
and all the troubled pharasees.
